
As you can guess by the URL of this website, my name is Joao Palotti.
I am a data scientist currently working as a postdoc researcher at MIT in the Clinical Decision Making Group lead by Dr. Peter Szolovits. Previously, I worked as a research scientist at Qatar Computing Research Institute (QCRI) and as a visiting professor at Carnegie Mellon University Qatar (CMU-Q).
My research interests are Applied Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, Information Retrieval and Health Informatics. I received my PhD in CS from Vienna University of Technology (TUWien), under the supervision of Allan Hanbury and co-supervision of Guido Zuccon. The title of my thesis was Understandability and Expertise in Consumer Health Search – Retrieving topically relevant and understandable health information on the Web.
