My name is Joao Palotti.

I am a computer scientist currently working as a research scientist at Qatar Computing Research Institute (QCRI) and as a visiting professor at Carnegie Mellon University Qatar (CMU-Q).

My research interests are Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, Information Retrieval, and Health Informatics. I received my Ph.D. in Computer Science from Vienna University of Technology (TUW), under the supervision of Allan Hanbury and co-supervision of Guido Zuccon. The title of my thesis was Understandability and Expertise in Consumer Health Search – Retrieving topically relevant and understandable health information on the Web.
